Every Salem Glass Witch Ball begins as molten glass and is shaped by hand in Salem, Massachusetts.
Working with glass requires heat, timing and experience. The artist responds to the material while it is moving, shaping each sphere before the glass cools.
It Starts with Three Colors
Each design begins with a specific combination of three glass colors.
Some colors are clear, others are more opaque, and some shift or change as they are heated. Together, they create the contrasts, reflections and interior details that give each Witch Ball its visual identity.
Shaped One at a Time
The artist gathers the molten glass, adds the selected colors and uses air, movement and specialized tools to form the sphere.
As the glass moves, fine strands and patterns develop inside the piece. Controlling the material at this stage requires experience: the artist has only a limited amount of time to shape the glass while it remains workable.
From the Furnace to Your Home
Once the sphere has been formed, the glass is cooled and the finished piece is inspected and prepared for display.
The result is a Witch Ball that brings together color, craftsmanship and meaning—made in Salem and ready to become part of your home.
